| Atom |
| The basic particle that makes up matter. Examples include hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, iron and gold atoms. In the natural world there are 92 different types of (naturally occurring) atoms, ranging from the hydrogen atom, which is the lightest, to the uranium atom, which is the heaviest. Plutonium is a man-made atom created from uranium. |
